Choose PY154 specifically for premium applications: automotive OEM and refinish coatings (Blue Wool 8 required), engineering plastics processed at 280-300°C (ABS, PC, PET), premium architectural paint with 10+ year warranty, powder coatings for outdoor architectural aluminum. The cleaner greenish-yellow shade and superior lightfastness justify the price premium.
Only if your application doesn't need the extra performance. For premium automotive coatings, PY83's 6-7 lightfastness will fade visibly within 2-3 years compared to PY154's 7-8. For cost-sensitive architectural paint, PY83 may be perfectly adequate. Match the pigment to the actual outdoor exposure your end product will see.
Benzimidazolone synthesis is more complex than diarylide synthesis, with more reaction steps, lower yields, and more expensive intermediates. The result is a 50-100% price premium. The superior lightfastness and heat stability are real performance advantages that justify the cost in premium applications.
Yes. PY83 is a diarylide HR (heat-resistant) yellow rated to 240-280°C, which is adequate for HDPE pipe extrusion at 220-240°C. For PP injection moulding at 280°C+ or engineering plastics at 300°C, switch to PY154 or PY155 for adequate safety margin.
